The first console to come out after the big shakeup of the video game market was the Playstation 2. Released in 2000, it was a great console that took a long time to really be eclipsed by newer systems like Xbox and Nintendo Wii. The graphics were really good for its time and it had tons of games such as Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, and Madden NFL. It also used memory cards to save your progress which is still kind of rare except for Nintendo DS games. The only major drawback was loading times; if you had a fast-loading disc like Sonic Adventure or Metal Gear Solid then loading times were short and seamless but other discs could take up to five minutes (it all depends on how fast your PS2 is). But if you have a slow PS2 or are just not into playing games then having to wait around five minutes to play your favorite game might put people off. The PS2 has tons of great games for this reason, but just because there are tons of great games doesn't mean that all the cheapness is gone. This is not limited to either system alone, but working on both systems at the same time shows how much cheaper it is to fix the PS2 compared to the XBOX. Since it's so cheap, you can plug one in and play any game for less than $20 and an original disc would only run about ten bucks (usually). The console itself is only $80 which makes it quite cheap. During the 2004 Christmas-New Year season, the Wii was released by Nintendo to great success, with over 60 million units sold. Although there are many people who do not agree with this statement, the Wii has sold very well compared to its competitor, which caused other companies to release other first-generation consoles that could compete against it. The Wii is a console that can play DVDs, which is another reason why it is popular because at the time of its release (late 2006), DVD players were pretty expensive; though now they are much cheaper. The games for this console are fantastically fun and easy to play; most games only take about three minutes to play (unless you like Mario Party or Super Smash Bros.). Some people may complain that this system doesn't have enough online-capable games, but considering how it has practically always been the top of the video game world, most games are focused on offline-Only. The Wii costs around $200-$250 depending on the model. This console was released in November 2005. It was released by Nintendo to compete with Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360, which were both released in late 2005. The Playstation 3 is a modernized version of the PS2, which was already an excellent gaming console at its time. With better graphics and more computing power than its predecessor, it does not have many advantages over it other than being cheaper(with games). It costs around $250-$300 depending on the game. This console was released in early 2006 to compete with the Nintendo Wii and Sony's Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 is another modernized version of the original Xbox, which had already been an outstanding gaming system. With its graphics being much better than that of the Playstation 3, Microsoft came out ahead in this battle for dominance because it had fewer people who would want to buy the Playstation 3. It is even more expensive than the Wii at $600-$600 depending on the game. This console has also been banned by many schools because of its lack of security features before gaining them in newer consoles after it was released past 2005. eccc085e13
